Panajachel Town

Well, we walked a short way from our hotel. We need to change money again. This time, the 1st bank wanted a minimum of $US200. The next one didn't change $US. Finally, a BAM bank. But would it decline to change because it is within 8 days? No. It seems that must be a rule in Antigua. Piece of cake - no queue, all done in a matter of minutes. Even got help from a gringo back in the queue behind us when I couldn't properly pronounce our hotel name properly!

But we don't like the town at all. It is quite ghastly: streets lined with every tourist paraphernalia possible. The vendors are quite pushy too; one young woman was quite rude.

We walked to the lake and found a restaurant where we could have a drink overlooking the water. Really quite nice, and this is what we are here for: the lake.

So we whiled away a few hours: had a couple of drinks, watched the sun go down, the volcanoes around the lake lit up in the orange sky, had dinner ... the lights of the little villages across the other side of the lake twinkled in the night sky - beautiful.
